Yesterday, I attended the rally at Wisconsin's capitol that defending union and labor laws in our state (our legislators want to destroy collective bargaining rights). For those not aware, the rallies have actually been in progress for the last six days now and the whole world is watching (thanks be to Magpie for sending me this picture: Egypt Supports Wisconsin Workers .) It was the first time I ever participated in a protest and it was a truly amazing experience - even with the arrival of Tea Party members who wanted to dissuade us (we still outnumbered them about 100 to 1, though. *g*)
I wanted to show you just how many people were there yesterday, but I couldn't capture all of them. According to PressTV, there were at least 70,000 protesters out there.
This was the first time I've ever been inside the capitol. People have actually been sleeping on the marble floors at night just so they can hold their ground on the front lines.
It was so worth running down the sidewalk to get a shot of these folks! I loved the costumes.
The best part of the day though? Marching with my mom (a first grade teacher) and my sister, Mary Ann (a sixth grade teacher). I wouldn't replace that memory for the world.
