The Crisis in Wisconsin (aka "The Crisis In Dairyland") headlined last night's episode of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart (clip can be found here: http://www.thedailyshow.com/.

For the most part, his analysis of the situation was spot-on, except for one thing. The 14 Wisconsin Senators that are still out of state. They didn't leave because "the going got tough, so the tough got going." They left because it was the only option they had to keep the bill from passing through last week.

I am, quite frankly, proud of them for what they are doing, especially since the governor seems ABSOLUTELY UNWILLING to negotiate or budge on his stance. For example, public employee unions have stepped forward to say they would pay an increased percentage to health care and pension plans as long as they were able to keep their collective bargaining rights. Even firefighters (who are currently exempt from the "Budget" bill) have offered to give up their pay increases in an effort to help the teachers.

Scott Walker's response: No.

You know what that tells me? This is not about the budget. This is about busting up unions and busting up the Democratic party. It's also about suckling on the teat on major corporations.

So when I first looked at your entry title, I thought it said, "Diaryland Crisis" and I went, "OH, WHAT NOW, EMO JOURNALING SITE??" hahaha. Cause I totally used that in high school and freshman year of college before jumping on over to LJ. But what you're talking about is a bit more serious.

UGH I am so disgusted with Walker. I hope something gives soon. :(

LOL.
I've never used Diaryland so that makes it extra funny.

*hugs*

Hell, even Obama has come out on the side of the unions.

Walker is such a dick! Seriously what did he think was going to happen when he asked unions to give up their bargaining rights? Did he really think that they were just going to say... 'Sure, no prob!'? I mean really? Cut me a break. He's ridiculous and I really hope he doesn't get his way!

Yep.
Pretty sure that is what he thought would happen.

Exactly!

I want to get you and my dad together so badly these days. You both are so involved with what's going on in WI right now. I wanted to send him your FB pics of the protest you went to so bad, but resisted.

I'm an Aussie so can't really comment but from what I've seen about this on my friend's list, it definitely sounds to me like his aim is to destroy the unions.

That is his aim.
And I hate that he's not even budging on it a little, despite people willingly saying they will make concessions as long as they can keep their collective bargaining rights.
