I went to the state capital today to lobby my Senator with a couple of folks from the PAC-group, We Are Wisconsin. Unfortunately, Olsen was out of the office since the Senate voted and passed the most restrictive Voter ID bill in the nation and then had some Joint Finance Committee meeting. We spent a couple of minutes sharing our anger with his staffers, including Olsen's lack of response to his constituents. We were told that the staffers had about 50,000 emails to go through and it would take 3-4 months to address them all. Once we finished with the staffers, we headed over to the offices of several Democratic senators in order to thank them for the work they were doing.
When we spoke to Wirch's staffers, we found out that they have fewer staff than Olsen, but received the same amount of emails from their district. Thing is, they finished up their 50,000 emails already, which made me wonder what the hold up was for Olsen's minions.
We did manage to find one Senator to talk to us and that was Dave Hansen. I felt like a rock star when he shook my hand and was impressed by what he had to say. Paula and I also managed to meet Democratic Minority Leader John Erpenbach (who appeared on the Colbert Report when the protest in Madison first started and the Democratic senators had fled to Illinois. We also met Senator Fred Rissa, who's been in his seat for 50 years (and was sadly interrupted during his speech to the Senate today. I find that to be a mark of great disrespect.)
I'd like to end with an appropriate comment about the sitcom: Happy Endings.
I found out via Tumblr that last night's episodes 10 and 11 were supposed to be episodes 2 and 3. I was honestly confused by the network's choice to air them so far out of order given how much tension they provided within the group. WTF, ABC? At least the show hasn't gotten canceled.
Yay for a second season!

on 2011-05-19 11:48 pm (UTC)And it's really cool that you were able to meet and talk to so many state senators and get your voice really heard. I wish you had no real *angry* reason to visit them though.
As for Happy Endings, I think new shows get shuffled around with a lot because the networks want to air the "stronger" episodes first.

on 2011-05-20 12:20 am (UTC)Luckily, I had no anger towards the Democratic folks I talked to. We wanted to thank them for all they've done to be the voice of the little guy.
Indeed. I just found it weird that they shuffled those into the end of the season.

on 2011-05-20 07:27 am (UTC)And it *is* weird how they were shuffled to the back. I don't think ABC was planning on renewing "Happy Endings" at first is my guess.

on 2011-05-20 08:51 pm (UTC)Be warned though, Little White Lie is only one season (because it was funded via a contest someone one.) There are, unfortunately, loose ends that will be never be taken care of.
