I couldn't help but notice today that part of "All-American Prophet" from the Book of Mormon sounds an awful lot like "Trouble" from the Music Man. Not that I'm complaining. Merely...observing.

Anyway, I'm behind on the Starkid meme so here's day 29 for all of you still paying attention to this one.

I think he looks so darn cute in that hat. It makes me smile.

In other news, I got a call today from Fred Clark (the man I've been campaigning for) and he thanked me for all my hard work as a volunteer. It made me feel all special and stuff.

Finally, the biggest news of today is this: in two days, I will be meeting [livejournal.com profile] sionnach_ayame and [livejournal.com profile] secondmezzanine. I'm so flippin' excited!!!!

FIRST OF ALL, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARE MEETING MEZZ! That is amazing. Amazing. :D

Secondly, that is so cool that Fred Clark actually called you to say thanks. That's pretty classy of him to do, I think.

And now I have "Trouble" stuck in my head. And I want to compare/contrast that Book of Mormon song.

I thought it was pretty classy too.

The part I'm thinking of from BoM is the third verse.

Damn, Robert Preston was a genius. (I used to be obsessed with The Music Man when I was little, and the Broadway revival was my first Broadway experience too. It just should be noted, I feel, when I talk about this.)

And I definitely hear the similarities, but I wouldn't sue for copyright infringement or anything, for sure. I do like Mezz's idea of how they are kind of homages or starting off points for the song.

My bet is that it's on purpose. There seem to be a lot of homages (Lion King, and I'm convinced-- CONVINCED-- that "You and Me (But Mostly Me)" is a play on "The Wizard and I" from Wicked... I need someone to back me up on this!).

Obviously this is an issue that needs to be investigated further. THANK GOD I HAVE TOMORROW OFF FROM WORK, AND CAN SPEND MY FREE TIME LOOKING INTO THIS.

I've changed my mind and think it's definitely Defying Gravity, not The Wizard and I.

Weirdly, when I hear (But Mostly Me) I think of that bit in Captain Hammer's song where he says "Mostly Me" - just the same kind of arrogance! LOL. :-)

Haha, I assumed that Music Man bit was deliberate, like the homage to The Sound Of Music? "A Warlord who shoots people in the face? What's so scary about that?"

Plus all the million other references to South Park/ SP The Musical. They are so self-homaging.

I'm sure all of the references were tongue in cheek. I just felt like pointing it out. :)
