The sixth chapter of Self-Destruct Button will be posted later today.

But first, I must ramble about my life and my weekend.

Thursday:
I drove down to Whitewater after work, picked up a beef burrito from Q’doba, and headed down to Rhi, Nica, Sarah, and Damien’s apartment for the night. We were joined by Nicole, Pam, and Tom (the latter two being friends from my Pagan group). After a bit of conversation, we watched Ink, which might very well become my newest obsession because it’s indie fantasy at its most awesome, and Suck - a film about vampire musicians. It was a bit cheesy, but it was quite fun to see Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Malcolm MacDowell, and various others wreaking havoc together.

Friday:
I attended the grief and counseling workshop in the morning and enjoyed myself, despite the subject matter and the fact that the speaker wasn’t quite as good as the woman I saw in November at the Wisconsin Counseling Association conference. The speaker of this workshop definitely covered a lot of bases though and there was some good discussion. We also undertook a surprisingly difficult exercise where we were given 12 slips of paper and had to write down 3 names of people we care about, 3 objects that we place stock in, 3 hobbies we love, and 3 personality traits we’re proud of. We were then told that a doctor had diagnosed us with cancer and we had a year to live. We were given various cues to rip up our pieces of paper (three at time, two at time, etc.) until we were down to our last two. Then she came around and took one from us, removing our ability to choose what we would part with. I actually found myself sniffling when I had to rip up my dad’s piece of paper. :/

After the workshop, I went out for lunch with Sabrina, Margo, Nicole, and Carmen. We had excellent conversations ranging from politics, to marriage, to grief, to counseling. After lunch, I popped into the Registrar’s Office to see my former work colleagues. Then, I hung out with my friend Meg for about an hour before she had to leave for work. That evening I went over to my friend Adam’s house (he’s the guy who used to work in the imaging cave with me back in my Registrar’s Office days.) We were joined by other former work friends: Caila, Amanda, and Anna, and played Gauntlet on the Nintendo 64. I’m positively awful at video games but it was still fun. We also watched a surprisingly amusing film entitled The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu. I’d expected it be to lame, but it wasn’t so bad. We all laughed quite a bit so that’s a win.

Saturday:
On Saturday morning, I concluded my Tour of Whitewater by going out for coffee with Rachel. It was nice to connect her with again, given that both of us moved in with our boyfriends after years of rocking the long distance thing. It seems that transitionally we’ve been handling it about the same and I’d call that a good thing. :D Then, I headed back home and Nick and I tried out the new restaurant in town called Let’s Eat. I had a Chicken BLT wrap, which I think I would have enjoyed if it wasn’t for the onions. I hate raw onions and I was annoyed because the menu didn’t mention the item having any. I didn’t complain to the waitress though, even though I should have. Instead, I just picked them out and those that I couldn’t find before taking a bite benefitted from being soaked in Ranch dressing. Best part of the meal though were the sweet potato fries. NOM!

Sunday:
I read about 200 pages in my book (Angel of Death Row). It wasn’t enough to finish it, but I’m damn close now. I’m sure I can get it done on my lunch break today. Next up is Devil in the Details: A Story of an Obsessive-Compulsive Girlhood. Then, I spent the afternoon with Tamara and Margie (friends of mine from my Slim and Sizzle class). We watched Red via Charter on Demand because Tamara hadn’t seen it and it was a lot of fun watching that again. Margie also made us home-made popcorn. Yum! I was quite excited to find out that both of them signed up for Tai Chi (since Slim and Sizzle won’t be offered this session) so I’ll get to see them more regularly (at least once a week) starting Tuesday. I’m definitely looking forward to that. :D

Finally, some thank yous:
I want to thank whoever nominated Self-Destruct Button at the SunnyD Awards. That was a sweet surprise. I also want to thank sweet_lyri and novemberrain007 for the cute headphone v-gifts.

Later gators!
