I'm Back, Babydoll!
Aug. 7th, 2010 02:43 pmI'm not really sure how best to break this down so I guess I'll just start at Wednesday and go from there. :)
I hopped into my car on Wednesday about 10 am and headed up to the most easiest vacation destination ever. (Seriously, I get on the interstate in my town and follow it straight until I get into Minocqua.) Unfortunately, my timing wasn't exactly right and I got there about two hours before Nick (and various other relatives) came back from Loon Days. Luckily, I wasn't locked out of the cabin on account of Nick's cousin, Noah, who had opted to say behind. We chilled for awhile and caught up on life while watching Scary Movie and Malcolm in the Middle.
I also got a call from my doctor (who I had visited on Monday) to let me know that my triglycerides were high and I had to avoid eating soda (no big loss as I don't drink it often), juice (sad!face), and fried food (which means no more cheese fritters at Ren Faire. Epic!Fail!).
In no time at all, the rest of the crew (Nick, Mark, Julia, Randye, Scott, Tim, and Sam) had gotten back from their morning trip. From there is was off to dinner at Voss's, which is a 100 year old resort/restaurant. I ate Rolled Stuffed Walleye with herb mashed potatoes and buttered corn. Mmmm...the crab and shrump stuffing was some of the best I've ever had.
After dinner we headed back to the cabin for some R&R and I finished reading All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris (Book 7 in the Sookie Stackhouse novels).
On Thursday, we woke up and headed into town to have some quality coffee time at Horhay's. While there, I checked my email and discovered that one of the places I applied for (Sauk County Child Protective Services) had emailed me. Unfortunately, the state cut funds for the position I had applied for, but they assured me that I would be placed on an eligibility list in the event that another job opened up in their department. I am a little disappointed by this, of course, since it didn't include a job offer, but at least, they sent me something back. Not all companies do that.
That afternoon I started reading Lady Q: The Rise and Fall of a Latin Queen. It's a biography about gang life in Chicago and so far, it's an incredibly fascinating read (I have a hundred or so more pages left to go before I'm done with it). It's definitely not for the faint-hearted though as it's extremely rough around the edges.
In the evening, we grabbed dinner at the Island Cafe where I had the "Spectacular" Strawberry Spinach Salad. It's something I have every time that I go up to Minocqua and it gets more and more delicious each time.
Following dinner, Mark (Nick's dad) took me and the other ladies (Randye and Julia) to see the Northern Lights Playhouse perform South Pacific. SP isn't my most favorite musical ever, but I do have to say the actors did an amazing job!
On Friday, we mostly just lazed around and Mark took me out on the fishing boat so I could see the entirety of the lake. It's always fun to check out the various cabins and fantasize about owning one or two of them. For dinner, we went to Chef Rene's Back Bay Cove and I think I found my number one favorite dish of the week. It was called Scallops Pernod and it was scallops sauteed with Pernod (a French liquor that tastes a bit like black licorice), mushrooms, fresh spinach served over a bed of linguine. I also got to have New England Clam Chowder made from scratch. Mmmmmmmm....nom.
Today, we woke up early (as check out time was at 9 AM) and headed to Horhay's for coffee. From there, Nick and I headed for home. :)
Now onto the part where I have a job interview...
My neighbor John works for Aprilaire (a factory in Madison). He informed me of a customer service position they were opening and I sent in my application for it about two weeks ago. On Thursday, I got a call late in the afternoon from the HR rep who told me they'd like to set up an interview. On Friday, we finalized the time and she emailed me the additional paperwork they want me to fill out.
So...on Thursday, August 12th at 10 AM...I'm going to be interviewing my heart out! :) *dances* It may not be in the field I got my degree in, but the bills need to be paid and I'm sure it won't be too bad.
In LJ news, I did manage to sift through my flist today and opened up tabs for things that I wanted to make sure I read. If there's anything you think I didn't catch, please feel free to link it here.
Thanks bunches!
