Day 27 - Fanfic or fanvid rec (or both)
I shall start by saying that I have some truly talented folks on my flist and it's an honor to be friends with them.
That said, I recommend the following because my heart just gets giddy thinking about these things.
1.
himym_roleplay: A truly sensational hot mess filled with angst and death and smut and awesomeness.
2. Fives Times Marshall Takes Lily's Bra Off (and one time he didn't) by
caroline_shea. It's a truly wonderful explanation of LAME.
3. Glimmer by
stablergirl. It was written for my 6th LJ anniversary, features Barney/Lily, a countdown, an elevator, and snogging!
4. Unhinged by
secondmezzanine. COIN GAME!
5. American Psycho by
idioticonion. Dark, creepy, and pretty much made of awesome.
1/ I enjoyed it. I think Kurt played an excellent Riff-Raff and Mercedes did a great job re-vamping Frank (however, that role will always belong to Tim Curry, no matter how awesome Anthony Stewart Head was when he did it.)
2/ I'm glad it played within the context of rehearsing for an actual high school musical. It felt a little less like a shoe-horned theme episode that way.
3/ Becky dressing up as Sue for Halloween was freaking cute.
Now with the good things out of the way, I have to say this next:
Mr. Shue is gross. I don't care for it when he has to push his way into whatever the kids are doing. It makes him seem far more desperate to relive his glory days. Plus, I hate that he's a total douche to Emma. But what I found worse was that after the fuss of not giving Frank to the dentist because of sexuality of the role, he fills in for the character that Rachel's supposed to be singing "Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me" to. Epic levels of wrong.
I was also a little annoyed that they changed some of the lyrics in the songs. Each time they did it, I felt taken out of the moment for half-a-second.

on 2010-10-27 04:09 pm (UTC)I agree with you about Mr. Shue. Him playing Rocky was a little creepy since Emma wasn't playing Janet. (Although seeing him without his shirt wasn't bad at all. :))
I'm also with you on the lyric changes. They made me pause and go 'that's not right'. I suppose I can understand why they did it, but you don't mess with a classic.

on 2010-10-27 04:19 pm (UTC)And I most definitely agree. Classics are meant to be classic for a reason.

on 2010-10-28 04:16 am (UTC)Yeah, the whole Mr. Shue thing was cuh-reepy. But I really enjoyed the rest of the ep, just because, ya know, Rocky Horror!

on 2010-10-29 11:02 pm (UTC)Especially for someone who grew up learning all the words by heart.
