snogged: ([Doctor Who] Maxing Out Cool)
I went to a Zumbathon last night for the Pink Ribbon Angels, a charity that provides breast cancer patients in the local area with out-of-pocket funding they need to cover medical expenses. The event raised over $900 on tickets and raffle prizes alone and we had a great time sweating, shimmying, and partying on for a cause. I also won a raffle prize and it was awesome. It has a bottle of homemade blueberry wine, two pink-and-white painted wine glasses, a $10 gift certificate from the Chamber of Commerce to use at any local business, and a gift card for a free wine flight at the wine bar. :)

My friend and I posing pre-workout. She's the same friend who put turned our cool t-shirts into even cooler tank tops )

Today, I woke up and caught up on some TV. I watched Glee, Masterchef Junior, and Parks and Recreation. For the most part, Glee made me cry, but it didn't measure up to the powerhouse of emotion that I still feel whenever I watch "The Body" (BtVS). As for Masterchef Junior, I was super excited that Sara is still around. She's just the cutest thing and she's only 9!

Then, I went to an art class at the wine bar downtown. It's been at least 15 years since I've tried to paint anything, but when I saw that Paint 205 was offering a zombie photo, I knew I couldn't pass it up. I was glad that the instructor had actually drawn out the outline and we just had to worry about the painting part. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out actually.

BRAAAAIINNNSS )

I also got to enjoy some wine with my art. They had a raspberry wine from Fawn Creek that was lovely and since they only had one bottle left, I got the first glass for $4.00 and the second glass (and last drop) was on the house. :)

After my class, Nick and I went on a date. We decided to go to Murph's North Shore, which is a supper club that's only open when the golf course is (May-October.) I had a house salad, bacon-wrapped meatloaf, loaded mashed potatoes, and pretzel bread. It was positively heavenly!

Over the last year or so, I've grown disenchanted with Glee. While some episodes are great, most feel like a chore too watch.

So for the last week I've been telling myself that I'm not going to watch. That I'm going to swear off of Glee this season and focus on the long list of new shows and returning shows I have laid out for the fall.

But really...that's just a hollow I can quit anytime I want excuse because as I write this, I've got the pause button pressed in order to write this and I'm five minutes into the episode already.

*sigh*

Oh Glee, why can't I just quit you?

Will I end up on top? You can bet on it, bet on it, bet on it. You can bet on me!

Yes...my LJ title is from High School Musical 2. I don't care if you judge me. I fully embrace my dorkiness.

Moving on...

It is absolutely chilly today. It’s currently -1*F (-18*C for my non-American friends) and our wind chill values are between -5*F and -10*F. It’s definitely one of those days where I’d rather stay inside with a warm mug of cocoa and a book, but alas I’m working for Power Packer.

Speaking of Power Packer, I totally forgot my headphones today so I don't get to listen to music. :/ I’ve also been informed that my time here is running out. The boss basically said that once I finish my massive data entry project, I’m done. I wager it will probably take me until the end of next week to finish though so at least I have a little more time to earn a paycheck.

In other news, I watched last night’s How I Met Your Mother and the Glee episode that aired after the Superbowl yesterday.

I absolutely loved HIMYM. Oh Honey )

Now for my Glee thoughts. The Sue Sylvester Shuffle )

Last but not least, I ordered a shirt from the Woot!Shirt Day of Reckoning two weeks ago and it came in the mail last Friday. I got the chance to wear it Sunday because I met my friend, Meg, for lunch. I loves it. :)

Day 27 - Fanfic or fanvid rec (or both)

I shall start by saying that I have some truly talented folks on my flist and it's an honor to be friends with them.

That said, I recommend the following because my heart just gets giddy thinking about these things.

1. [livejournal.com profile] himym_roleplay: A truly sensational hot mess filled with angst and death and smut and awesomeness.

2. Fives Times Marshall Takes Lily's Bra Off (and one time he didn't) by [livejournal.com profile] caroline_shea. It's a truly wonderful explanation of LAME.

3. Glimmer by [livejournal.com profile] stablergirl. It was written for my 6th LJ anniversary, features Barney/Lily, a countdown, an elevator, and snogging!

4. Unhinged by [livejournal.com profile] secondmezzanine. COIN GAME!

5. American Psycho by [livejournal.com profile] idioticonion. Dark, creepy, and pretty much made of awesome.

Day 5 - Favourite Season 4 episode(s).

Three Days of Snow

THIS is the stuff that LAME is made of. The lunchtime chatter, the marching band at the airport, the funny sounding beer names. The love these two have for each other gets to me everytime. Other positives about this episode: Ranjit! Marshall and Robin imitating Robots! Barney and Ted running the bar! Kokomo! And the crazy story-telling style that makes you think these things are happening on the same day instead of over the course of three days.

Honorable Mentions: "Benefits", "Little Minnesota", and "The Three Days Rule" (mostly because of the slashy-ness of it.)

The Rest )

So I've been given my TV viewing schedule some thought and I realize that I'm just not capable of really watching all of the shows I want to watch right now so I'm going to put at least one of them (hopefully two, but we'll see) on hiatus (see: will catch up with come winter or summer when there's less on). Currently, that choice is Glee. The show just doesn't excite me anymore. It seems like the writers care more about shoving in songs than giving us character development.

I'm also considering doing the same thing to Chuck. It's good, but it's not addictively good.

A Proper Blog Post :)

1. Working at the Registrar's office is going as well as always, even if my time there tends to drag on a bit everyday. For those who don't know, I do a lot of data entry-type stuff at my job and I answer the phones and talk to students and all that. I've actually been doing this for the last six years so I'm pretty much a pro by now.

2. I'm still enjoying the emotional thrill ride that is my Counseling Internship. Granted, some of the kids are real shits, but I love 'em anyways.

3. Nick and I are going to be celebrating our 6 year anniversary in a few weeks (Dec. 2 is the exact date but because that doesn't fall on a weekend, we're doing it Dec. 4) and we're going to Ginza of Tokyo for sushi :) I'm super excited about going there because it's one of my most favorite restaurants.

4. I got the new Flight of the Conchords CD last night and it's awesome and funny and awesomely funny.

5. I absolutely love last night's episode of Glee. The music and the devotion to side character development made me smile :)

6. I'm also quite happy with the results of last night's So You Think You Can Dance. I mean, it sucks that all the tappers are gone now but I can see why that would be the case. I'm crossing my fingers that Channing is next to go. She may be talented, but she really comes across as a total ice queen.

7. I'm not happy to find out that Dollhouse got canceled because it means I won't get my fix of Victor and Sierra anymore. However, I'm also not surprised and I'm glad that FOX plans to run all 13 episodes still.

8. I'm currently in the middle of three books right now, one of which is a book on CD. The first is a "fun" book called The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. It's got all the good stuff like betrayal, violence, romance, good and evil, magic, etc. And it's got Inquisitor Glotka who's gotta be one of the best characters ever. He's a sadistic, torture-loving man who suffers from his own disability (gotten when he was tortured during the war). The second book is Guy'd Lines, which is written my on-site supervisor at the counseling center who's name just happens to be Guy. It's a culmination of what he's learned being a therapist and it's really quite useful. The third (my book on CD) is Tweak: Growing Up On Methamphetamines." It's a memoir written by Nic Sheff and it details his descent into drug addiction.

So there you have it. An update on me :)

ACK! I can't believe I really haven't done this yet! And considering how much I loved premiere Monday, I'm quite surprised I haven't squeed myself to death.

HIMYM - 5.01 )

TBBT - 3.01 )

Castle - 2.01 )

Glee - 1.04 )

And one more brief thought from this dutiful thinker: I can't wait for the performance rounds to start for So You Think You Can Dance. I mean, the auditions are entertaining enough but I watch the show for the dance routines and the talent, not for the people who really can't dance at all.
