First, I hope all of you having a wonderful holiday, whether you celebrate Halloween or Samhain. I've certainly been enjoying myself even though Nick and I haven't done much since getting home. I did see a cartoon get brought to life though as I drove down my street and saw a man dressed as a banana dashing around the corner. He was followed promptly by a lumbering gorilla. It was priceless.
Second, I must talk about the party I attended last night/into the morning as it was a hoot.
Trilogy of Terror (1975) starring Karen Black - There was nothing about this that was scary or terrifying. I spent more time laughing, scratching my head, or joining in with the choirs of "So-and-So had it coming."
ZA: Zombies Anonymous - I wanted very badly to like this movie. It had a good concept at first seeing as it's a metaphor for xenophobia, but then it flat-lined into something that made no sense whatsoever.
Cabin Fever- I missed the first part of this since I went outside with two of the party goers to check out the cemetery across the street as there's a statue of a woman there that's known to bleed and/or drown herself in the river. While I didn't see either of those things happen, I will say that it's a gorgeous statue. As for the film part, I had a few giddy moments watching Rider Strong (aka Shawn from Boy Meets World lead the cast and for the most part, I liked it. That said, there were a lot of moments featuring pure stupidity and I was confused that they didn't explain what the "kit" was.
Frankenhooker - Easily my favorite of the bunch. It was a fun, wicked romp with all the things that make B-horror comedies entertaining.
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (from the minds of Troma) - Easily the grossest of the bunch. I spent a lot of time hiding under my blankets during this one. Not because it was bloody, but because of the explosive diarrhea and vomiting. My gag reflex is wicked sensitive.
Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter - We watched this when we woke up this morning. It was...strange. Not as good as it could be, but not bad either.
Orphan- We started watching this, but before it ended Nick and I had to leave to meet my parents for lunch. We're going to finish it later tonight though. It's definitely the most suspenseful of the bunch.
Third, I had a surprisingly non-awkward moment with my dad today. I mentioned that Frankenhooker had been my favorite film and he said that one day he'd share his X-rated version of Pinocchio with me sometime. Instead of saying "Ew" or feeling freaked out that this was my dad, I countered by telling him about the X-rated Alice in Wonderland film I watched with Nick. Despite the fact that we were discussing perverted Disney films, it didn't phase me and I'd call that a good thing for our relationship because it means we can be more like ourselves now that I'm older.

on 2010-11-01 02:07 am (UTC)It's good that you and your dad can have those kind of conversations now. My dad and I still aren't quite there yet.

on 2010-11-01 11:13 am (UTC)As for "try," that pretty much sums up how I watched the film as opposed to everyone else who wasn't dry heaving.
