Report: Republicans Give Up On Redefining Rape

"After pressure from women's groups, Democratic politicians and Jon Stewart, the authors of the controversial abortion bill in the House will drop language that appeared to exempt some rape victims from seeking federal help to pay for an abortion."

As you'll see from the article, though, it's not all coming up daisies as the Republicans want to use the original language of the Hyde Amendment and if passed, will limit federal funding on abortions.

But at least it's a small victory.

I didn't know this was happening, which is probably a good thing because based on what I'm reading now the whole idea would make me rage.

That was just one part of that bill that enraged me. At least that part is out. Too bad other parts are still in.

I agree that the other parts of the amendment should be reconsidered as well, but I'm definitely wooing about this new thing anyway.

Hope your interview went well today!

Thank god for small victories. I've been in such a rage over this, I'm thankful that people have been able to make some dent... though it's definitely not enough.

Especially after meeting with housing people today, I feel so grim about the next two years. I want people to be able to raise the banner for vulnerable people again and give us hope! :(

I wish those who are vulnerable would be defended for as well.
Our governor is currently planning to cut back on Badger Care, an insurance plan that offers cheap Medical Assistance, as a way to balance the budget.

I hate state officials who try to disenfranchise the poor. It's total crap.
