Found this article online today.

For Many Grads, The Old College Try's Not Enough .

It's depressing, but sadly accurate, especially given my job drama with the Pauquette Center and the fact that I spent most of this past year working as a data entry/office temp.

I also find it depressing that this article's title did not use an apostrophe correctly. :/

This Japanese man is truly the truest of heroes and someone that should be remembered and honored in the wake of the tsunami/earthquake.

Also, this article may have made me cry a little.

Report: Republicans Give Up On Redefining Rape

"After pressure from women's groups, Democratic politicians and Jon Stewart, the authors of the controversial abortion bill in the House will drop language that appeared to exempt some rape victims from seeking federal help to pay for an abortion."

As you'll see from the article, though, it's not all coming up daisies as the Republicans want to use the original language of the Hyde Amendment and if passed, will limit federal funding on abortions.

But at least it's a small victory.

So far this week, the town I currently live in and the town I went to school in have successfully made it into the sight of national newscasts.

*On Monday, the town I'm currently living in made front page headlines on cnn.com because the 100 year old levee was starting to crack under the pressure of rising water. The way they told it made it sound like we were all using rafts and canoes to get to and from work, but most of the people living inside the town were not affected by this (as we live close to the newly built section of levee that's made from gravel and cement - not dirt).

*The second event actually occurred Sunday, but didn't get coverage until yesterday. A girl at UW-Whitewater was attacked and called a "faggot" by two men after they spotted her wearing a t-shirt that said "Legalize Gay."

I hate, hate, HATE the fact that a crime like this took place there. Granted, my college always kind felt like it was stuck in a town with little diversity, but still...I thought Whitewater students were better than that.

The message I want you to take away from this is: I don't have canoe to work or to the bottom of my driveway and I hate Hate Crimes. Thank you and have a good day.

This is the town my boyfriend lives in. I know these sorts of things happen all over the place but it makes it even worse when it is this close to home.
