Since this has worked out well for me before:
[Poll #1677206]

And now for a brief work rant. There's a new temp in the office helping out with the Accounting department (so NOT my area of expertise) because one of our Accounts Receivable folks is leaving in March to move to Wyoming.

Since learning some of the ropes, they've moved him into my cubicle so I work next to him all day. He seems like a nice guy. He's married, has three kids who have graduated and have lives and all that. But here's what irks me. The man never takes a break. I've never seen him stop working, not even when the break/lunch buzzer rings (ah, the joys of factory work.) I really wish he would though. He makes me feel guilty for being the occasional procrastinator and I don't like that feeling so much.

I'm just worried that if you read The Colour of Magic you might not like it and dismiss him. I'd suggest Small Gods instead. Or Guards Guards.

Then go back and read the Wizard books if you like pTerry as an author.

I've read Good Omens. But that's a Pratchett/Gaiman adventure.

I guess...I bought the Color of Magic because Amazon claimed it was the first in the Discworld series.

Yes, it's the first one. And personally I love it because it's a pastiche of a lot of 60s/70s pulp fantasy books that I was obsessed with. But it's not representative of Discworld. There's a lot of better books in the series.

Oh... go on then! Read it. I actually think you'll appreciate the humour.

Well... for the record The Color of Magic was my first Pratchett and I liked it! If that helps.

The "Study" Trilogy by Maria Snyder (Poison Study, Magic Study and Fire Study). There is a second trilogy (The "Glass" Trilogy) set in the same universe which I am away to start.

Or the House of Night Series (8 books are currently released out of 9 - and there are side books too).

Those are my favourites aside from HP.

Thanks.

I started the Discworld novels with Mort (which I still think is one of the funnier stories, it very much appeals to my sense of humour) but with The Colour of Magic being the first Discworld Novel it's as good a place to start as any, though it may take a few books for you to get into the series.

I wasn't all that sure if I should start at the beginning or if it was okay to bounce around.

Most of the books can be read as stand alone novels but I'd suggest reading each character or group storyline chronologically. A good reference for what order to read the books as a timeline chronology rather than a publication chronology is:

I have just finished Soulless by Gail Carriger. I loved it. Vampires, werewolves steampunk vitoriana and tea. I liked it so much I've just ordered the next 2 and preorderd the 4th.

I've been reading so much for uni, as I'm doing a lit degree, so much of it is crap, and I picked this up by chance at a secondhand store for pleasure.

I also adore Terry Pratchett, have all his books and the dvds. Can't go much wrong with TP if you like his kind of humour and can get into the Discworld.

Also how the hell are you sweetie? I've not been on LJ much at all, shouldn't be here now lol. I do miss certain people, like you of course, but RL is a bit of a bugger so don't get the time to keep track of LJ. Anyway, big hugs, hope ya ok. xxxxx

Sounds really interesting. I like vampires, werewolves, steampunk, and tea. :)

I've been doing all right. Still trying to muddle through the wonders that is job hunting with a degree that makes me overqualified (because it's a Master's degree) and underqualified (because I can't get my license without 3000 hours of post-graduate supervision.) Gotta love that counseling major. *thumbs up*

How are you doing?
