Just got a call from my Autism Project kiddo's dad. An emergency came up with the family's horse so they had to cancel. I'm sad for them, but also grateful to have the day off, especially because I have the house to myself for a few hours (Nick went to Summerfest in Milwaukee with a few of his guy pals last night and crashed at Kit's.)
I'm still not sure what I'm going to do yet (other than catch up with my flist and maybe watch this week's So You Think You Can Dance episodes.) But what I do know is that right at this moment, I'm going to tackle the meme.
I do need to jump back in time quick as I realized I missed Day 10 and I find myself wanting to answer it.
10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I've gone outside my comfort zone many times in order to explore rare pairings or take on challenges offered by friends of mine whenever I put out drabble calls. One pairing that I adore is Willow/Oz.
rileysaplank challenged me to write a drabble featuring that pairing and I found myself struggling with it. I inevitably wrote it from Willow's POV and Oz had barely any dialogue. I do love that drabble though. It's one I'm quite proud of because I really had to work extra hard to get it done. When Sleep Escapes Her .
As for a pairing I don't like, I'll say Willow/Kennedy because I absolutely hate that pairing and yet, I let Kennedy enter into my latest story. I can't say I treat Kennedy very nice, but I did try to capture a few good moments between her and Willow before I ended things for them.
Now we go back to our regularly scheduled programming.
14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I'm perfectly comfortable writing any rating. The highest I've ever written is FRAO/NC-17, though I'm not sure it goes any higher than that.... As for the final part of this, I have to say that I've been shocked like that before. There was a Carl/Wendy that I wrote with Mezz once that wound up being PG-13 instead of NC-17, despite our best efforts. Sometimes the smut muse just doesn't work the same way she used to.
15. – Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
I once forgot to warn for something in a fic (the non-explicit sex scene between Willow/Angel in "Alpha Female") and I got yelled at by a reader who pointed out the scene was non-consensual. I corrected the mistake immediately and vowed to always warn. Admittedly, warning for "character death" sometimes sucks, especially if it's part of a plot twist, but I do it anyway. As for the strangest things I've warned for: sex with inanimate objects and tentacles top the list.

You must have your hands stirring all kinds of pots because you sound very busy.Warning in fic is a very interesting ongoing discussion in fandom.

on 2011-07-10 09:20 pm (UTC)I'll definitely watch out when it comes to naming. I've been pretty safe with April and Sirius Black though. :)
As for being busy, I sure am! I just wish I was bringing more cash flow.... I work two jobs and they don't even equate to part-time.
