Patience Tested
Jul. 6th, 2016 05:01 pmI definitely had my patience for life tested this morning.
I didn't sleep well - tossing, turning, waking up at 2:45 and again at 3:30. It would be easy to blame it on the storm, but it was actually a mixture of insomnia and general worrying about life stuff. I managed to wake up to my alarm and listened to a little Dream Theater before leaving for work.
I had to work in the Baraboo office so I was initially excited to stop at my favorite coffee house. I got my Heath Bar Mocha frappe and felt a little more prepared for the day. From there, however, I nearly hit a woman who had her turn signal on (she was not turning, actually. She was going straight. She did apologize for not turning off her signal.) Then...I locked my keys in my car.
I knew the spare key was on the kitchen table so I called my husband. In doing so, I woke him up and he mentioned that several times. I told him about my predicament and my fear that I would have to pay for an expensive locksmith. Nick didn't feel he had time to drive to Baraboo because he had to work at 11.
I worked out two alternate, low cost plans. One was to have my co-worker in Baraboo drive me home (which would have resulted in Nick needing to leave the side door unlocked). The second was to ask my neighbor (at home for the summer) to bring the spare key to Baraboo. We went for the 2nd option and I had to beg Nick to walk the keys over to the house next door. He begrudgingly did so and my neighbor, L, made it up to Baraboo with the key.
I'm thankfully home now. I have both sets of car keys and I figure this day probably can't get any worse so I'm going to call that my win for the day.
That...and the Culver's custard that I'm going to eat later.

Jun. 25th, 2016 12:14 pmNick got a job!
After a year of unemployment, he bravely decided to step out of his comfort zone (graphic design) and is now working for a wine bottle company called Loggerhead Deco. It's manual labor-production, but he gets to operate a cool screen printing machine and so far, he says he likes it.
My favorite part is that it's first shift so he still gets to be home with me in the evening.
Everything's coming up Milhouse.

Disney Meme (Also, New Hair)

1. Which Disney character do you relate to most?
I've always felt closest to Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I love to read (obvious), but I also like to believe that I share some of Belle's compassion for others. She is usually able to find the good in someone and I try to do that too.
2. What is your favourite Disney Villain song?
"Poor Unfortunate Souls" sung by Ursula. As a kid, it gave me nightmares. As an adult, I appreciate the sass.
3. Who is your favourite Disney sidekick?
Vanellope Von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph. She's essentially me...as a kid. :P
4. What is your favourite Disney Renaissance movie?
Since the Disney Renaissance essentially took place in the '90's, I'm going to go with one of my absolute favorite films: Beauty and the Beast
5. What’s is your favourite live-action Disney movie?
The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. That movie is a household staple from my childhood.
6. Do you prefer Elsa or Anna?
Definitely Anna. I love her spunky, can-do spirit and her love for Elsa.
7. If you were a fairy in Pixie Hollow what kind of fairy talent would you have?
I would definitely want to be a water-talent fairy. I've always felt connected to the water and it would be fun to have some control over it.
8. Which Disney movie castle or place would you like to live in?
The house from Lady and the Tramp. I really love the Victorian style.
9. If you were the star of a Disney movie, what would your Disney sidekick be like?
My sidekick would be like Pascal from Tangled.
10. If you could own one Disney character outfit, whose outfit would it be?
I really like Tiana's green gown that she wears at the end.
11. What Disney quote do you feel best represents you?
"Today is a good day to try." -- Quasimodo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Finally, I got my hair professionally dyed/streaked over the weekend. We ended up with a little red and a little purple. I really like the result, though it does look better in person.

I had a pretty great day on Tuesday. I woke up to a sweet dinosaur-themed card from my husband (who is now my hubbysaurus. *g*) I worked a half-day, went out to lunch with a friend, D., at Red Robin. We went a little crazy on the food stuff (milkshakes, burgers, fries with campfire sauce, and a small order of cheese curds.) That ended up being my only meal of the day. D. got me a copy of "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes." It's a very pretty copy.
After lunch, we wandered around Westgate Mall for a little while. My favorite store -Ravenworks - is apparently not open on Tuesdays so that part was a bust, but we found some amusing things in the craft store. We moved onto to used bookstore and I found two books to take home ("Dante's Girl" and "Music of the Spheres.") We also browsed the Marvel comics section.
I went to my Zumba class after we returned. My instructor played several of my favorite tunes.
I went home and showered. I helped my husband with his portfolio and his interview outfit (he had an interview yesterday! I'm crossing fingers and toes for him.)
Finally, I went to the middle school choir concert. My friend, Lyndsey, is the middle school choir teacher and she always does a fun theme for the end of the year. The kids all did a great job and it was cute watching Lyndsey dance with her 8th graders to "All for One" from High School Musical 2.
Hooray for good birthdays.

Wizard World Comic Con
Apr. 10th, 2016 11:04 amYesterday, my husband and I attended Wizard World Comic Con in Madison. I had bought tickets months ago because I figured it was a good birthday present for my sweetie (he turns 33 next weekend.) We hurried thru the cold (because it's April and we're having "Snapril aka Snow April) and arrived a little bit after the doors had opened.

I need a beta for a gen Harry Potter ficlet.
It's about 700 words and it's a "fix-it" fic, which means Nymphadora Tonks is still alive. There's also motherhood, bonding, and good stuff (I hope.) The requestor did want mourning or a heavy emphasis on the kids themselves.
I would prefer someone who's familiar with the fandom, who can make sure my spelling/grammar/tenses are good, etc.
Please let me know if you can help a girl out.
Thanks!

Something I hate: Adultery (I don't like seeing politicians cheat. I don't like seeing infidelity story lines on TV or in movies. I just don't like it.)
Something I love: Autumn. It's my absolutely favorite season - the colorful leaves and the Halloween holiday. I love the clothes - the sweaters, the leggings, the boots. I love pumpkin-flavored everything and autumn squashes (especially Acorn.) I love the smell. I love picking pumpkins and apples. (because I love fresh applesauce and apple cider. Weirdly, I don't actually love apples that much.)
Somewhere I've been: Atlanta, Georgia
Somewhere I'd like to go: Amsterdam
Someone I know:
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
A film I like: Anastasia (the animated one. My favorite line is: "I'd give her a HA! And a HI-YAH! And I'd kick her, sir.)
Crazy Wacky Fun Times
Mar. 12th, 2016 01:15 pmThanks to the Circling the Wagons friend meme, my friends list has quadrupled and there's been lots and lots of posts to read. If I've missed any, I need to apologize. I've really tried to keep up with it all.
In other news-
~I'm loving this beautiful weather. It's 62 degrees and sunny. I started my day with a 90-minute Zumba party to the benefit the kids in German class who are traveling to Germany for the exchange program. There was great energy, great moves, and four fun instructors. My friend, Lyndsey, and I celebrated with two trips to the salad bar at Pizza Hut and we split an order of their seriously yummy breadsticks.
~ I'm excited that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie are being renewed by the CW. I would definitely say they are my favorite shows on tv right now.
~I've been in play rehearsals twice a week and that's fun. I didn't initially audition for the show, but when someone dropped out, the director asked me to step in. I'm playing Sandrine in the show "Almost, Maine." I've got about five pages of dialogue (lots of back and forth with my co-star.) I'm playing a party girl of sorts who's celebrating her bachelorette party and runs into her ex-boyfriend, Jimmy. It's awkward and funny and a bit sad.
~A book I put on hold three months ago ("Modern Romance" by Aziz Ansari) finally came in. I'm excited to start reading that.
I guess I don't have much else to say. I'm taking advantage of the weather today and also getting some much-needed laundry taken care of.
Peace and love!

Well. This was harder than you think it would be.
Basically, Just take your username, find one of your favourite songs that starts with every letter.
Fair warning, you'll find 9000 songs for one letter and then look for an hour for a song you like with that last stubborn letter.
But hey, Music. So, give all the songs a shot. I've been listening to all the songs that have turned up on my flist and if you enjoy them or not, exposure to new music is never, ever a bad thing.
Party on, my friends!!
Sandcastles in the Sand by Robin Sparkles
No by Meghan Trainor (Her brand new single. I just heard it on the radio today. It's freaking awesome!)
One Girl Revolution by Superchick
Gunpowder and Lead by Miranda Lambert
Grow Old With You by Adam Sandler
Everyone's A Little Bit Racist from the Avenue Q Original Broadway Cast Recording
