snogged: ([Exercise] Zumba)
Last night, I attended a Zumba Glow Party. It was a master class complete with black lights, glow sticks, and an energetic instructor. I was disappointed that my shirt did not light up like I thought it would, but my socks lit up and so did the glow sticks around my neck and that's what matters.

I'm definitely feeling sore this morning though! WOO!

In other news, I will be celebrating 10 years of having an LJ on the 27th of July. Naturally, I will also be gone on vacation that day and will be staying at a cabin in the woods with no Wi-Fi so...I'm trying to figure out how I want to celebrate.

I definitely want to do some kind of Willow/Spike-themed drabble call (a post I will put up later by the way), but other than that, I'm not sure.

Please feel free to share ideas if you have them.

So I'm thinking I should really have some sort of Zumba or dance fitness icon seeing as how I've been spending the last few months doing exactly that 3 times per week, but that is besides the point.

The point of this entry is this...

I tried out a new class today (through the same company that brings me Zumba) called R.I.P.P.E.D (which is kind of like a blend of strength training, cardio, and dance). The theme for R.I.P.P.E.D this year is "Superheroes." That means we get to do Spiderman pushups, Iron Man Squats, Hulk Flip and Fly, and Superman Jumps. Naturally, I geeked out a little bit because that just sounds awesome (even if all the moves challenged my body in whole new ways.)

Err...

So I'm technically still off-topic because I didn't know the theme for R.I.P.P.E.D was "Superheroes" when I showed up for class tonight. If I had known that, this commentary may have made more sense in context instead of coming across as geeky. (BTW- I totally embrace my geekdom. This is not an issue.)

Long story short, I told a gal in my glass that she looked like Rogue from X-Men. (She has short red hair with a blond-white streak. Not a perfect replica, but I'm sure you can guess why I'd think that.) She was confused and had no idea what I was talking about.

It made me sad because Rogue is so freaking awesome and was such an icon of my childhood.

So please, if you don't know who Rogue is, go educate yourself. It's worth it!

Since the heat and humidity are making it difficult to regularly go for my walks (except for when I wake up at the crack of dawn early, which I don't really care for, and that still gets pretty humid), I decided to check out Open Swim at the community swimming pool today. It's actually been awhile since I've been in a pool (besides the wave pools and things at Mount Olympus) so I figured it would be fun to try and the $2.75 admission wasn't quite so bad. I think it would have been nicer to have been there with a friend, but I did manage a combination of leisure swimming, treading water, and a few laps over the course of 30 minutes.

I feel so proud. :P

I'm also thinking I might need to check out their shallow water exercise class ($3.00 for a 60 minute session.) Could be a good way to change things up, I think.

Days 18 and 19 )

Moving on to RL, I got my sister to start watching Parks and Recreation!!! She actually started it before I slept over at her house last night, but we watched the last two episodes of season 1 and the first episode of season 2 together and it was fun. She also introduced me to this slightly addicting game called Word Bubbles .

This morning, I got up early and headed out with my gal pals to the Susan G. Komen walk. Details, Shmee-tails )

Once I got back home though, I wound up having a lazy afternoon. I caught up on So You Think You Can Dance (I think I'm in love with Arielle Coker). I also finished Season 1 of 30 Rock.

Tomorrow, I have a baby shower to go too. WOO!

Catch you on the flip side, chickadees.

I can't believe I'm already 2/3rds done with this.

Day Ten: Favorite female character in a scifi/supernatural show )

Who Would You Ship Me With? )

Finally, I signed up for an exercise class sponsored by the local hospital called "Slim and Sizzle." To be honest, I was expecting an aerobics-like class but instead, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it's much more yoga-inspired. Or at least...the first class was. Anyways, it was very much about finding awareness in your body and the world around you. We did a lot of stretching, a lot of deep breathing, and even had some time to just lie down on our mats and get rid of some of the tension that's built up inside of us.

I know I carry a lot of my stress in my shoulders and I'll be honest when I say it was hard to release any of it, but I think I tried and I look forward to seeing what's in store on Thursday.

The other cool piece of last night was getting there a little earlier and chatting with the instructor. My story about seeking employment as a counselor came out and she apparently knows people who work for one of the clinics in the area from past fitness classes. It was a place I had emailed but no one ever got back to me. I think the reason for that was the only email I could find was a very general one that was probably intended for clients looking to schedule appointments.

Either way, yay for potential new contacts!
