I want to thank everyone who has wished me a Happy Birthday so far. I can safely say this has been one of the best days I can remember in awhile.

Events of the day so far:
1) The gas station I interviewed with rejected me, but I'm not really surprised or bothered by it, given that I told them I had all my weekends in June booked with family events and I would leave if a counseling position was offered.

2) The folks that got me the Power Packer temp job called to say that a law firm was interested in having someone come on for 2-4 weeks. I'm 95% sure that I will be that person for them and if I am, then I start on Thursday.

3) I have an interview with another counseling agency. This one is in Madison (~an hour drive) and they have a children/adolescent day treatment program that I expressed interest in being apart of (when I sent them my letter last week.) The interview is scheduled for tomorrow at 2.

4) (And I've actually known about this for a few days, but I'm sharing it for the first time on LJ now.) The organizational meeting with the Pauquette Center for their day treatment program has been scheduled. That will be taking place on Thursday, June 2nd.

Now onto some shiny news that makes me explode a little with squee. As some of you might remember, I contacted the Compass Counseling center this past Friday. Well, as promised, I got a phone call today from the other woman who's involved with the agency. They want me to come in for an informal interview on Monday, May 23rd (the day before my birthday!)

I hope they think I'm a good fit and that there aren't any obstacles that would get in the way of them pursuing some sort of position with me.

In other news, I had an interview with one of the gas stations in town this morning. For the most part, I'd say it went well. Though I was none too thrilled about having to solve a worksheet of math problems (seriously, guys, I loathe math.) By some stroke of luck though, I only got one wrong so that made me feel pretty good about myself. They also seemed to be somewhat accepting of the fact that my weekends in June are booked solid...or at least, they pretended to be. I guess I'll find out next week if they really are okay with that. If they're not, then oh well. It's no big deal if I don't get this one.

I have an interview on Thursday with Catholic Charities for a part-time (up to 28 hours a week) position in my field that would permit me to do group work with children, adolescents, and parents.

It's not quite as close drive-wise as the Pauquette position and with gas prices going up that could be a little tricky, but I'll deal with it.

I'm starting to think the emo gods were listening yesterday....

ETA: It's going to be a phone interview.

At my boss's encouragement, I took a snow day today and it's a good thing I did because not even Nick was able to get out this morning and he's a way better snow driver than me. Sadly, his boss made him call a cab (and promised to reimburse him) because he's the only graphic designer who lives in town and stood a chance at making it in. I guess he's like one of three people in the building today.

So far I've shoveled the back sidewalk and did my best to shovel out my car. I'm quite grateful that I didn't have to shovel the front walk because we got a visit from the snow blower fairies (Aka our neighbors). I started a new novel: Please Stop Laughing At Me by Jodee Blanco, did the dishes, and caught up on Lie To Me. I only have the last two episodes left to watch. It does bum me out a little that there are only two more episodes left of Season 3 (last night was the season finale).

In other news, I got a phone call today from one of the places I'd applied to in Madison called A Helping Heart. The position involves serving as a caregiver for adolescent girls who are suffering from mental illness. They offered me an interview for tomorrow afternoon after I persuasively convinced her that my Master's degree doesn't necessarily make me "overqualified." I figure it can't hurt to at least go in and see what they have to offer, especially since things are still a bit uncertain with the Pauquette situation. I don't really see it as me giving up on Pauquette though. It's really more me trying to have a back-up plan so I'm prepared in the event of my worst-case scenario.

Anyway, on to the letter!

+ Had my follow-up interview with Pauquette today. The day treatment coordinator seemed extremely nice and we had a good discussion about my skills and her plans to get this pilot program up and running. She seemed to really dig my previous experience working with day treatment programs so win on that. :)
I will say that I had to bite my tongue when she handed me the outline she'd created to pass out to schools because there was a grammatical error (misuse of apostrophes). I didn't feel it was my place to point that out.

+ I have a short day at work today since I had to take the morning off. Doesn't mean it's dragging any less normal, however. *sigh*

+There's a guy at work today who failed to button up his shirt all the way and it's a bit...gross. That look is really only okay if you're wearing paisley, gold bling, and disco shoes and even then...it's still gross.

+Nick and I are now finished with the first eight episodes of the Wire. It was good when we started, but it's even better now.

+I'm going to see "White Christmas" (the theatrical production, not the film) in Chicago this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it.

+Finally, Nick and I get to celebrate our first of five "Christmases" on Sunday as we're hanging out with his mom, his sister, her husband, and her daughter (Nick's neice) on Sunday. It shall be good times.

I'm writing this more out of curiosity than necessity, but I figured since I threw this out there on Facebook, I can do it here too.

Tomorrow is my follow-up interview with the day treatment coordinator at the place I'm currently hoping to be employed by come the middle of January.

And so...I'm curious if any of you have particular questions that you've asked potential employers during interviews (or if you're one of those awesome folks who actually works in HR or interviews for a living, what questions do you like hearing.)

I will repeat that this is merely me being curious as I have plenty to ask. I just know that two minds are better than one (so to speak.)

I'm totally hooked on the song "Longest Road to Nowhere (the DownTempo remix)" by Morgan Page right now. It's just freaking gorgeous. Another song I'm loving right now is "Something's Gotta Give" off of Christian Kane's new album.

Anyways, yesterday I had the day off from Power Packer so I could focus my energies on my phone interview and on my Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP) face-to-face interview.

I had my interview this evening, as most of you already know from the constant updates and emails I've been sending.

I would say that it went well and I left feeling positive about it (actually more so this time than when I had the interview with the state). The position in question is for a secondary therapist for a children/adolescent day treatment program that is scheduled to open in February.

The time line currently implies that final hiring decisions won't be made until the middle of January.

Even though it means more waiting in my future, they've already asked me to come in for a follow-up interview so I can meet with the primary therapist that will be heading up the day treatment program when it launches. I'll be learning more details about that come Monday.

Hope is once more instilled in this heart, my friends. And I honestly feel like a shoo-in given that I already worked for an adolescent day treatment program recognized for its model by the psychologist who interviewed me. Not only that, but Dr. Hayes received his Bachelor's degree from UW-Whitewater and so I felt like a rapport was built quickly from that.

Secondly, I want to thank the stupendous [livejournal.com profile] whichclothes for the package that arrived today. I'm tickled plaid by the Roald Dahl books (many of which I haven't read at all) and the additional goodies made it extra special. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I had the interview with Voc. Rehab today and I want to say that it went well enough.

Follow the career brick road... )

In other news, I got a hair cut today. I'm not sure how I feel about the curliness (which is probably fine since I don't own a curling iron anyways) and the length is definitely shorter than I usually go, but I think I can make it work. :)

Before the begging starts, I give you photographic evidence! )

That's all for now, folks.
